me trying to look cultured
Far out, my time as a design student is over, well almost. Tuesday marks my last day as a student over at Enmore Design Centre. It's been great, been a major bludge, but great. I didn't learn much, or actually I did, and that was:
* I HATE flash/actionscript and even HTML/CSS. Anything that requires the use of a brain, other than my creative side anyway.
* I LOVE video editing and static design (print, desktop publishing, that sort of stuff). But I LOVE making videos. Love it.
Tuesday also was the start of the graduate exhibition where all graduates show off their work for everyone to see - prospective employers, family, friends and so on and so forth. I had a look around at what other students were doing, and let me just say that I got a real bad case of little man syndrome. It seemed like all of the other classes works were just SO bloody good. All their portfolios were creatively done, their works were displayed so well, and the works themselves were bloody ace. Mine was okay, but I was just way too lazy to make something good.
Here's the thing, I reckon my collective work that I've done progressively throughout these two years have been pretty good. However, I did not even prepare a proper portfolio for display. Even the works in my portfolio was like, some of the shittier ones that I did throughout the year. I so could have done better. But yeah, I suck.
And it was so hard for me to hang around our room while people I didn't know browse through my stuff. People looking through my work, browsing my website, looking at my business card and then moving on to the next person. I just hoped to God that they loved my work.
But the past two years have been great, met some great new people, whom I now call great mates. I will miss that I won't get to see them as often. But we will still DEFINITELY all meet up again and again and again. They can't get away from me that easily.
And here's the end of that chapter...

I concur, i hate flash and html and all that scripting junk. I'm studying graphic design at UWS in Penrith and i'm changing one of the courses that focuses on this called "Interactive Design" to something to do with Resources. I like people, maybe i'd enjoy it better working with them. We're totally on the same wave length here.
